Technologies » SQL Server
Just about all business applications require data. In order to create
effective solutions, you need a database platform that is responsive,
flexible, and secure. You get that and more with Microsoft SQL Server®.
By basing our data-driven applications on SQL Server, Pendulum creates
applications that are fast, highly reliable, and can meet the needs of any
information technology situation. SQL Server also has one of the largest
market bases which means easier data integration and reuse down the road.
For your particular project, using SQL Server (or any other large-scale
database platform) may not be the most cost-effective solution. One of these
viable alternatives may be more suitable:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE)
This is a free, redistributable version of SQL Server 2000. It is the best
alternative solution when there will be five or less concurrent users on
your applications.
- Web Hosting - Shared SQL Server
When SQL Server 2000 is necessary for a hosted website, most hosting
companies offer hosting packages that include shared space on a SQL
Server 2000 server. The licensing cost of using SQL Server is then
part of your hosting fees and is much less expensive than paying for a full
license. (All of our suggested web hosts
have SQL Server functionality available.)
- Microsoft Access
Access is a stand-alone product and not a direct version of SQL Server
(like MSDE). If you require more than a few concurrent connections
and do not have an over-abundance of data, Access is most likely the right
technology for the job. The functionality available in Access is very close
to what is available in SQL Server, and the licensing for Access
is much less expensive — in many cases you may have already licensed it through
an overall Microsoft Office® license. See Office Automation
for more information.
We will work with you to determine the most cost effective solution for
your needs. Our capabilities on SQL Server include:
- OnLine Transaction Processing (OLTP) databases
- Data Warehouse databases
- Database analysis and design
- Database creation and documentation
- Performance Tuning
- Data Transformation Services
