Pendulum, Inc. Designs Intricate Group Speed Networking Software used by Greater Richmond Chamber

Richmond, VA, February 23, 2006

At the Greater Richmond Chamber's March Breakfast Break, attendees will experience an intricate networking design called Group Speed Networking created by local IT company Pendulum, Inc. As they arrive at the Chamber event, each attendee will be registered into the matching system that will create a seating arrangement of five to ten people per table that changes every five to ten minutes. The software runs the number of attendees through a genetic algorithm that assigns them to a different table with a different group of people each time the seating arrangement changes. Attendees will encounter an entirely new group of people each time, without duplications.

The intricacy of this program has baffled those who have attempted to perform this matching feat manually, and was an engineering challenge for Pendulum owner Mike Ogilvie as well. "It is not simple at all," he explains, "it is a form of artificial intelligence with applications that range from networking groups to marketing tasks to scientific studies in which random matching or testing must occur."

This will be the second Group Speed Networking event held by the Chamber utilizing this software. The first was held successfully in December 2005 with around 45 attendees. Pendulum, Inc. will also be the Technology Sponsor for the event.
